I love working on the floor sometimes using liquidix watercolours and lots of inks and acrylic watercolours. Things happen that might not when using my familiar Windsor and Newton watercolour box. The box is fabulous for being out and about. But in my studio I have more space to spread my materials out.
Most of my work is a mixture of control and letting go. Somewhere in between. I'm interested in the bleed of water and pigment that happens with watercolours when used on the floor. The results can become a blast of hot colour or swirl of dark. In recent years flowers, wild plants and foliage provide access to this tension or contrast in my work. But I reckon it could just as well be another subject. My focus and sense of searching for something remains the same..
