in the studio
My studio is tucked away in an old mews courtyard a short walk from the beach in Hove. The studio was once a workshop and when I moved in I I white washed the place and added rows of wooden slats with nails to hook my canvases on. I like working on a number of paintings at once -rotating them around the walls or sometimes working on the floor.
In the studio I mainly use oil paint and oil sticks as I enjoy the richness, texture and deep colours of oil especially when mixed with linseed or walnut oil.
When I'm out about working on paper I love using a variety of mediums - pencil, pen, pastel, chalk, watercolour or ink.

My studio is home to my art books, paints, brushes, plants and cuttings that I pick on my walks. The walls are covered with imagery that has meaning to me - my observational sketches, postcards, photographs of landscapes I love - often taken whilst walking with my children.
The studio can be cold in winter, the seagulls and pigeons noisy and there's not much phone reception, but it's a wonderful space to expand my practice and get lost in the painting process.
