I've had a wonderful start to the year. A number of my paintings have been sold to collectors from Budapest to San Francisco.
This painting now hangs on the wall of London collectors and was inspired by Exmoor in Somerset and my love of the wild flower Rosebay Willow Herb which grows abundantly there. The title is 'Rather wonderful' and is oil on canvas measuring 100cm x 80cm.
I was able to varnish this painting with Jackson's matt picture varnish specifically for oil paint.
Sometimes this is not possible if a painting is bought before the six month 'curing' (drying) window for oil paint. It's really important to allow the painting enough time to dry before applying varnish otherwise moisture and air particles can be trapped between the layer of oil paint and varnish and create a whitish sheen. Varnishing is not vital for my work as I use a lot of linseed and walnut oil to mix my oil paint, which provides a natural protection for the surface of the painting.
